Oil on canvas, 2008 Featured in 2008 LDS Church International Art Competition Licensed for use in 2024 by The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington
The first version of my 2009 painting, “While Mary Sleeps “. A patron in Pennsylvania acquired this work to hang in a church alcove dedicated to her father, who died holding a statue of his beloved Saint Joseph.
The following quote is included with permission:
“We are grateful for your generous permission to share your original image ‘While Mary Sleeps’ as a devotional piece for the upcoming fraternal and prayerful gathering of clergy for The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. I have been told that Cardinal Gregory, the Archbishop, deeply appreciates this rendition of St. Joseph. I completely understand why – the tenderness and paternal care with which he holds and gazes upon the Christ child is quite touching. I believe that these same virtues would be of great benefit to our presbyterate while they are gathered in convocation and in their ministry. We will place the image of St. Joseph in the sanctuary alongside a crucifix, an image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and two other Saints. God bless you.”
