A series of paintings interpreting Genesis 3:24, where God “placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”
As God’s attendants, cherubim have been depicted as everything from four-faced animals to small, winged boys. Here I show them as mothers: wise, unflinching warriors, defending the value of families through their roles at birth and through their lifelong nurturing.
