Day’s End

A ranch hand sits in the door of the bunkhouse, relaxing at the end of a hard day.

The painting was created in 16 hours over about a week. In designing this piece, I spent considerable time finding the best way to picture it. I decided to make the woman larger than the canvas space to emphasize her capabilities and hint that she is a larger-than-life person, not easy to catalog, limit, or contain. She earns her pay and has greater things planned.

The earrings and detailing in her cuffs suggest her potential, but her clothes and boots are dirty, hinting at her fearless approach to getting things done.

This painting is a companion piece to Hard Day, both of which were created for a western art show. These are my first explicitly western art pieces, a break from my usual religious works.
