Beauty - Both Editions

There is beauty in carefully chosen words.

Prose divulges; poetry distills.

Poetry is concentrated heart, meanings so tightly wrung they squeal before walloping the page.

Image is even more potent, each glance conjuring endless ideas. Fused, they open worlds.

Add spiritual intent, and finite meanings become infinite in scope and effect.

These books blends words, images and intent, creating a collection of theaters of the mind, presented to capture the imagination, bring joy, uplift, and change lives for the better.

That these may help you I earnestly pray. Grab them; grow them; take them far beyond the now.

About the Images

I could have illustrated this book by hand, as I have several others. But time and budget would not allow and so, as is common in the graphics field, I employed other resources.

Rather than using stock photo libraries, however, I chose to generate my own images using the Midjourney artificial intelligence (AI) engine. Its customization and speed were gratifying, even though the quality was not always what I needed. Many of the resulting images required much modification.

If we define intelligence as self-awareness generating its own solutions, the current image engines are indeed artificial. I tried several. They have the appearance of intelligence but not the spark.

Still, AI is very useful. Like all the other innovations that have pruned many disciplines — the printing press, industrialization, mechanization, automation, computers, photography, the Internet, and endless more — AI is just another tool. There are many who will run in fear from its potential. Others will seek to govern its dark sides, and rightly so.  Others will embrace it, accepting its inevitability and its aids to productivity and creativity. Others will abuse it and turn to its dark side.

I choose to embrace the opportunities, as I have other opportunities before me. It will not be going away anytime soon. AI has benefited me, my family, and those I hope to influence. I pray we all will be guided and wise in its development and use. And when actual machine intelligence arises, may we be prepared.

The Large-format Edition

Lavishly illustrated with full-color illustrations, text and prose on every page, this 8.25×8.25″ book will grace any collection. (8.25×8.25″, full color. Purchase)

The Pocket Edition

While capable of great illumination, pictures can sometimes overwhelm text. The text-only pocket edition of this book is smaller, less expensive, and fits into budgets and backpacks better than the fully illustrated version. This black-and-white edition leaves room for your imagination to add your own images. (5×8″, text only. Purchase)
