Apollyon is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word for the Devil.

This painting is a parable about our lives today. Our world is engulfed in the darkness and fires of confusion and evil, mists and smoke obscuring the light. We need not fear, however, for all-powerful angels guard and guide us. Most often, though, the angels who lift swords against the dark are ourselves serving God and each other.
