I’ve been working digitally for decades, but this piece represents a new commitment for me into a fully digital commercial painting workflow. Happily, it is already popular with licensors.
The emphasis here is on “commercial”, meaning works for the print markets, and is founded on solid business economics. Stepping back from creating physical oil-on-canvas products drastically reduces turnaround times, makes changes easier, and allows me to produce derivative products more easily. While I don’t have a touchable, one-of-a-kind result I can sell, I also don’t have to struggle getting a good photograph of the artwork. My production volume can increase, allowing me to more fully fund this enervating hobby. And, very importantly, it allows more people to hear my visual voice.
